Lessons From The Soccer Field

With the lovely New England leaves as a backdrop, I snuggled up in my coat as I watched my son play soccer.  My ears perked up as I listened to my friend's commentary.  He was noticing the good in every player:  “Way to go Sam! Nice block Jimmy.  Way to communicate black team! Solid kick Keeper!”  Seriously, I was inspired by his cheerleading ability.

Many others on the perimeter of the field were making comments as well.  With multiple coaches on both teams and all the spectators, there was no shortage of input and opinion. “Up the sidelines! Nice work. Cross it!  Get it back.  Bobby, that was yours!! YELLOW TEAM WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM?!?”  How do the players know who to listen to?

As I contemplated all these comments, I realized our inner dialogue may not be all that different from what I heard at the soccer game.  So many thoughts, thousands of them each day.  Some of them are kind, uplifting, and instructive.  Other thoughts can be abrasive, destructive, and demoralizing.   We think our thoughts are facts.  Just because you are thinking a thought doesn’t mean it is true.  Some of our thoughts are helpful. Some of our thoughts don’t serve us at all.

I would love to help you look at the “soccer game” that is going on in your brain.  What comments do you want to focus on and what ones are you going to let go.  As your life coach, I can help you find more success in the game of life.  Let’s talk.
