The Power of Socks
For some reason I spend a lot of my day thinking about socks: seeing them all bright and colorful in my drawer, having all the lonely socks match up with their soulmate (solemate ;)) when they come out of the dryer, or noticing the fun socks peeking out from under the serious business executives pant leg. Did you know there is actually a company called "Happy Socks"? I have several pairs of them. It is hard not to smile as I slip into a pair of socks adorned with pineapples, bold stripes, or sleepy sloths.
Socks also have a very dark side as well. In fact, just this morning there were 7 offending socks on the floor of my family room. No joke. Number 8 is probably lurking under the couch just waiting to get my goat! Ironically one of the socks actually had a smiley face on it, as if it were mocking me. How dare he smile at me when he is balled up, stinky and sweaty where he didn't belong?! Potentially those socks could ruin my day.
I have great news friends!! Socks can not jump into your body and make you feel anything. Socks have no power over us. We see socks and then we think a thought about them. Our thoughts about socks create our emotions, not the socks themselves. Here are some optional thoughts and the emotions those thoughts might create:
- Those are adorable! -> Joy
- I bet that pair is really comfortable. -> Curious
- I need those! -> Desire
- Socks on the floor again?!? -> Anger
- That is not where socks belong. -> Frustration
- How rude to leave those on the floor! -> Unloved
- They think I am the cleaning lady. -> Resentment
- I am so blessed to have people to love and take care of. -> Gratitude
- I got this, time for some laundry. -> Capable

LOL so good, so true, great topic as people actually have very strong opinions about socks. I used to buy Happy Socks for my late husband and I had a lot of opinions about them. Today seeing your photo made me think, "I want some happy socks"...and then a bit of desire. Back to work for me!
