How much room do you have in your heart?

I love Christmas.  The lights, the time spent with family, the peppermint and gingerbread, the thoughtful gifts.  I love caroling and letting the messages of the beautiful hymns about Christ sink into my soul.  Joy To The World has a loving lyrical line that grabs my attention.  “Let every heart prepare Him room” has had me pondering for years. What does it mean to have room in your heart?  I am not a cardiologist so I am totally making this up here, but let’s say your heart is a finite space, I am going to randomly throw out 16 ounces.  If my heart has the capacity to hold 16 ounces, and I want to prepare room in my heart, what is occupying the space in my heart?   For the most part, I think my heart is filled with things I want in there: love, compassion, curiosity, forgiveness, peace, etc.  I also know that part of the human experience is to have opposing emotions as well.
